What every painting estimate needs
- Your business name, contact details and license number
- Estimate number, date and how long the price is valid
- Clear options (good, better, best) with what each includes
- Warranty terms and any permit or inspection fees
- Deposit required, if any
- A place for the customer to approve and sign
Pricing painting work
- Estimate from production rates: hours = area ÷ your crew's square feet per hour for each surface and coat. Track your own rates; published ones are a starting point.
- Price = (labor hours × loaded hourly cost + paint and supplies + equipment) ÷ (1 − target margin).
- Count prep separately: scraping, sanding, patching, caulking and masking can take as long as painting.
- Use counts for trim, doors, windows and cabinets rather than square footage; they don't scale with wall area.
