FieldEdge has a loyal base among HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors for a simple reason: it gets money into QuickBooks without double entry. Its site leads with "automated QuickBooks syncing between field and office," and it supports both QuickBooks Online and Desktop on every plan (FieldEdge, pricing). If that's the job you hired it for and it does it, switching may not be worth the disruption.
Shops start looking when the way FieldEdge is packaged stops matching how they've grown. This page covers seven alternatives with what each does well and what to watch, using prices and plan details from each vendor's own site as of October 2026.
What FieldEdge does well
Accounting sync. FieldEdge was built around QuickBooks, and both Online and Desktop are listed as included on every tier. For a shop whose bookkeeper lives in QuickBooks Desktop, few competitors offer that.
Trade focus. It's aimed at HVAC, plumbing and electrical, with flat-rate pricing, good/better/best presentation through Proposal Pro, service agreements and dispatch with GPS tracking. Its site says it is "Trusted by SMB and Mid-Market Service Leaders in HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical."
Upgrades any time. You can move up a tier whenever you like. Downgrades wait until the end of your contract period (pricing).
Why shops look for a FieldEdge alternative
Pricing you can't see
There's no price on the pricing page and no trial. The FAQ says pricing varies by team size and add-ons. You can find third-party estimates online, but most are written by competing software vendors, so we don't repeat them here. Ask for a written quote and compare it line by line.
Mobile licenses by tier
Select includes 2 mobile app licenses, Premier 4 and Elite 6 (pricing). If you run 8 techs, you're buying more licenses than any tier includes. Ask how extra licenses are priced and whether helpers or apprentices need one.
Features tied to tiers
The tier table is where many owners get frustrated:
- Quotes: single option on Select, multi-option on Premier and Elite.
- Saved reports: none on Select, 10 on Premier, unlimited on Elite.
- Proposal Pro, MarketingEdge, Consumer Management Portal: included on Elite; "call for pricing" on Select and Premier.
- Commissions and prospect tracking: Premier and up.
- Warehouse inventory: Elite, and only with QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Advanced Inventory.
None of that is unusual in this market, but it means the plan you need is often a tier higher than the one you were quoted.
AI
FieldEdge's home page doesn't mention AI features. If AI call answering or plain-English reporting matters to you, check what FieldEdge offers today in your demo, and compare with alternatives that include it.
The alternatives, one by one
TradesWork
TradesWork is built for HVAC, plumbing and electrical shops of about 3 to 50 techs. Prices are published: $79, $99 or $139 per tech a month on annual billing, or $91 to $160 month-to-month. Office staff, helpers and apprentices are free, and every tech gets the app. There's a 14-day trial with no card or sales call.
Good/better/best estimates and memberships are on Pro, the middle plan. The tech app runs on iPhone and Android in English and Spanish and keeps working with no signal. Reports show the jobs behind each number, and you can ask questions in plain English. Invoices and payments sync to QuickBooks Online, with anything that doesn't match placed on a fix-it list.
The honest watch-outs: no QuickBooks Desktop, a much shorter track record than FieldEdge, no connected financing lenders yet, and import layouts built without real FieldEdge export samples, so they're still being validated. Customers, price book, job history, invoices and agreements import on any plan; saved cards don't.
ServiceTitan
The step up in depth. Its Starter, Essentials and The Works plans add mobile estimates, payroll, commission tracking, advanced reporting and customizable memberships as you go up, with Pro products on top (pricing). Like FieldEdge it's quote-only. Expect a bigger implementation. See our ServiceTitan review.
Housecall Pro
Easier to set up than FieldEdge and fully priced on its website: $59 to $299 a month on annual billing for 1 to 8 users (pricing). Essentials adds flat-rate pricing, commissions and QuickBooks Online sync. Recurring service plans and the proposal tool need Max. Several add-ons, including the AI phone agent, have no published price.
Successware
Successware builds accounting directly into the platform, which removes the sync question entirely (Successware). It covers HVAC, plumbing, electrical and several other trades, with inventory, recurring jobs and reporting. Prices aren't published. Moving your books is a bigger project than moving your scheduling.
Service Fusion
A flat monthly price with unlimited users: $208 to $533 on annual billing, month-to-month available (pricing). Inventory and job costing start at Plus. The customer portal is on Pro or extra.
FieldPulse
Seat-based and quote-only (pricing). The core covers the operation, and premium products include a phone system, AI call answering, a pricebook and fleet tracking. Get the full quote with modules before comparing.
Jobber
If you're a small crew and FieldEdge feels like more than you need, Jobber is the simplest option here, with published prices from $29 a month and an excellent customer portal (pricing). It is lighter on memberships, price book depth and equipment records than FieldEdge.
Quick picks by situation
- On QuickBooks Desktop and happy with it: stay on FieldEdge, or look at Successware if you'd rather have accounting built in.
- On QuickBooks Online, 3 to 50 techs, want published prices: trial TradesWork and Housecall Pro side by side.
- 25+ techs with a full office and a marketing budget: get a ServiceTitan quote.
- Lots of office users: Service Fusion's unlimited-user pricing.
- Small crew, want simple: Jobber.
Questions to ask FieldEdge before you renew
Sometimes the best outcome is a better deal where you are. Before your renewal, ask FieldEdge in writing:
- What is my current per-license cost, and what will it be after renewal?
- How are mobile licenses priced beyond my tier's included count, and do helpers need one?
- Which add-ons am I paying for, and which are now included in a tier I could move to?
- If I move from Premier to Elite, what do I gain (unlimited saved reports, Proposal Pro, the customer portal) and what does it cost?
- When does my contract period end, and how much notice do you need?
If the answers are reasonable and the product does what you need, staying is a fine decision. If they aren't, you now have the numbers to compare.
What a switch costs in time
Money is only half the cost. Any move means re-entering or importing customers, rebuilding your price book and agreement types, retraining techs and office staff, and running two systems for a few weeks. Plan on several weeks from first trial to full cutover, with one crew going first, rather than a single weekend.
The parts that slow people down are rarely the software itself. They are price book cleanup, membership terms that were never written down, and stored cards. Start those early, whatever you choose.
Making the move
- Find your contract end date. FieldEdge downgrades take effect at the end of the contract period, and promotions reference annual memberships.
- Export customers, locations, price book and agreements while you have full access.
- Settle the accounting question before you choose software.
- Trial your top two options with real techs and real jobs.
- Move one crew first, then the office, then everyone else. Keep the FieldEdge export as an archive.
Stored cards need a processor transfer or a card-update link to members. Start that early.
Score your shortlist with the field service software scorecard so the decision rests on your shop's needs, not on demo polish.
